WHERE: San Luis Obispo County Library, 995 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

San Luis Obispo, CA  San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors will be deciding whether to allow processes of extreme oil extraction, includinghydraulic fracturing in our county. The former Republican mayor of DISH, Texas, Calvin Tillman, will speak about property rights and how they relate to the issues of fracking at a free event in San Luis CA on July 26, 7 pm, at the San Luis Obispo County Library. Mr. Tillman’s talk will include a powerpoint presentation and will follow with a Q & A opportunity for the audience. And some updates on the time line for the permitting to drill an additional 354 wells in Price Canyon and 4 exploratory wells in Huasna valley. The event will be held at the SLO Library. The public is urged to attend this free event.

Tillman will talk about why he and many other families felt compelled to move out of their town in order to preserve their health. Tillman’s insights and experience on the matter should answer many questions concerned citizens may have, concerning actual threats to the water, health and future of San Luis Obispo. Focus of the presentation is not on his story, but to tell people not to be passive and let this happen to them. “If you don’t get involved, you know what’s going to happen.” It’s a call to action. Tillman is widely known for his appearances in the award-winning documentaries Gasland and Gasland 2, by Josh Fox,which followed events in communities where hydraulic fracturing and extreme extraction processes for gas and oil occurred.

Elected as mayor of DISH in May of 2007, Tillman served two terms for the small town, after serving one two-year term as town commissioner of DISH.  DISH was located at the crossroads of many natural gas pipelines.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, he has degrees from the Community College of the Air Force, and Concordia University of Texas, as well as being a licensed aircraft mechanic and pilot.
